Chuck led Tony (aka Magic Muffin) out of the stallion barn, the clicking of his hooves on the cobblestone were not much quieter than those of the Thoroughbreds Chuck was used to hearing. He chuckled as he thought about that for a moment. Tony was a good sized Shetland Pony, but didn’t seem to realize just how small he was. As they walked past an occupied paddock, Chuck heard a loud grunt. He looked over and there was QMR Atomic Energy watching them. Atom was a testy stallion; he liked his space and the path along his paddock, belonged to him as well. Atom stretched his neck out as far as he could, trying to nip at little Tony; who was looking to challenge the stout Thoroughbred stallion. Chuck tugged on the lead, urging Tony to move a little faster; but Tony wanted nothing to do with what Chuck wanted. Tony reared, tossing his golden mane in the air and stomping his hooves on the ground as he landed. Atom kicked at the fence and shook his head, almost taunting Tony. “Come on boy, you’re no match for him,” Chuck said, still pulling on the lead. Tony kicked his hind leg out and grunted before giving in to Chuck’s wishes and moving on. Atom stood there, eyeing them as they passed. Tony swished his long tail and quickly looked back, as if to say “this isn’t over.”
“What do you think you are?” Chuck asked Tony as he opened the pasture gait. “I know you’ve got some pent up energy, but that isn’t the answer boy.” Tony still seemed a bit worked up as Chuck removed the lead and patted him on the neck. “Now, you’ve got plenty of space to run about here. Take advantage of it.” Chuck turned to leave the pasture but Tony was hot on his heels. Chuck stopped and turned around. Tony then stopped and looked away. With a smirk, Chuck turned and began to walk away and again, he heard the hoof beats following him. Again, Chuck stopped and so did Tony. Every time Chuck looked back at Tony, Tony would look away; as if trying to be sly. Despite having a lot to do that morning, Chuck took a break and played with Tony like this for a bit; he even began to run around with Tony following him closely. Back and forth around the pasture they went until Chuck was out of breath. He is usually watching the horses run, not the one running. “Oh boy, I’m out of shape.” He exclaimed as he tried to catch his breath. Tony seemed barely phased as he nudged Chuck to continue. “ugh, sorry boy, I’m done now. I’ve still got a lot to do today.” He said with a smile and a pat on Tony’s head; Tony again following Chuck to the gait, and seemed surprised that Chuck left this time. He stood there and watched as Chuck slowly disappeared from view before going to find a nice place to graze.
