After receiving the phone call that morning, Cheyenne had been able to sleep for a few hours. She woke up feeling refreshed, although she was still upset over the idea of not having any more children. She had been debating on getting a new dog for a while, especially after her friend, Kiki did; but since she and Chuck were trying to get pregnant, she fought the urge. She laid there staring up at the ceiling thinking everything over. “What am I waiting for? Do I really have to get out of bed? What time is it? Would I get a male or a female? Ugg, there is a stack of paperwork at my desk to get caught up on. I wonder if Old Man Miller will be having pups born soon.” She slowly rolled over onto her stomach, her hair tossed to one side, her long bangs hanging in her face, covering her left eye. The clock stared backed at her with its large bright numbers, “hhmm…2:00? Hmp!” She threw her head down into her pillow and took a deep breath. Then she mustered the energy to get out of bed and made her way into the bathroom.
She closed the medicine cabinet, her hair disheveled as she brushed her teeth. “I think a female, mmm…no a male.” She thought to herself, never even thinking twice if she should include Chuck in the decision. She spit out the last bit of toothpaste and grabbed her hair brush. She brushed her hair quickly, ripping the knots out without hesitation, as if she was punishing herself. Then she threw her hair up into a ponytail, frustrated with the way it was laying, tossed her hairbrush on the counter and went downstairs.
She looked out the living room window and watched Chuck talking with David, a new stable hand. “He seems nice. I hope he is a hard worker.” She stood there thinking before turning and grabbing her purse off of the couch. She hesitated for a moment as she tried to open the door and just as she was about to walk out to her truck, David came running through the back door yelling for her.
“David? What is it?” Cheyenne asked. “The mare...the foal...its coming!” Cheyenne had been housing a mare recently that was covered by ZA/IL Prince of the Nite, it was one of two foals due any day. “Seriously?!” Cheyenne exclaimed. “Ok, I’ll call Jay.” David hurried back to meet Chuck in the Mare Barn. Cheyenne pulled her cell phone out of her purse before tossing it back onto the couch and dialed Dr. Rowely’s number. “Hi, Jay? It’s Cheyenne. Scholarly is foaling, can you come down?....okay, thank you. See you soon.” She hung up as she entered the mare barn, her footsteps echoed throughout the large barn as she passed a few mares munching on their afternoon snack. She stopped as she passed Lantea’s stall. “Hey girl.” She said as she peaked into see her. Lantea was also due any day now, but didn’t look like she was in any hurry to deliver. Lantea slowly turned her over sized body and approached Cheyenne, sticking her nose out of the stall. She let out a quiet neigh as Cheyenne rubbed her nose. “You’re looking pretty good.” Lantea fluttered her eyes for a moment, and then looked away. She turned and closed her eyes. Cheyenne watched her for a moment and continued down to Scholarly’s birthing stall.
Chuck and David were there waiting for Cheyenne and Jay. “So is it really coming?” She asked. Chuck scratched his head as he watched her approach. “Yep, should be pretty quick.” They stood there for a few minutes before Jay arrived, “How’s she doing?” he as he approached. “She’s looking good so far.” Chuck answered. David was young and a bit nervous. He had worked at other stables but never a breeding facility. He had no idea what to expect or how quickly things would progress. Jay prepared himself to enter the stall in order to assist in the delivery if he was needed. Chuck noticed that David looked a bit uneasy about the situation, though not enough to want to leave. Chuck placed his hand on David’s shoulder, “well, it’s a good day to learn some of the most important skills around here” he said as he smiled. David just smirked back.
Scholarly circled the stall a few times before eventually lying down, the foal was well on its way, but Scholarly looked like she was going to need a hand. “Yea, I’m going to help her.” Jay said as he opened the stall door. With every contraction, Jay pulled and fifteen minutes later, the foal was born. Jay backed away into the corner to give the mother and foal a few moments together. He kept a watchful eye on the foal as it became aware of its surroundings. It was a beautiful chestnut foal, much like its dam with three white socks and a prominent blaze. Everything went perfectly and the pair bonded well to each other.
Cheyenne, Chuck, Jay and David celebrated another successful delivery and a new addition to the estate. “That was amazing.” David exclaimed as he eyed the new little foal. Despite having seen it countless times, Cheyenne still found the birthing process just as amazing as David did.

We are still debating on the name but are happy to announce the birth of a minimal sabino chestnut Thoroughbred filly out of Scholarly Point SHS by ZA/IL Prince of the Nite!
